What is the Emerging Writers' Competition?
The Emerging Writers' Competition is the primary initiative of the Foundation's Emerging Writers Program, designed to support aspiring young Indonesians and help them share their stories with the world, thereby contributing to greater diversity in Indonesian storytelling.
Who is eligible to submit works?
Writers must be Indonesian citizens, proven by attaching a photo of their ID card (KTP) or equivalent identification. As an entrant, you must not be older than 35 years and must not have published more than two books.
What will writers who pass the selection receive?
The selected Emerging Writers UWRF 2024 will have an extraordinary opportunity, including attending the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival 2024 and meeting hundreds of national and international writers. Additionally, they will receive accommodation during the festival from October 23 to 27, 2024, round-trip airfare to Bali, participation in a creative writing masterclass before the 2024 Festival, and their work published in the Foundation's annual Anthology, launched at the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival. This bilingual publication represents a significant opportunity for the winners to have their work translated into English, opening doors to international opportunities for the first time. They will also participate in various dinners and special events with world-renowned authors, have the opportunity to choose from various masterclasses, and access dozens of Main Programs during the 2024 Festival. Moreover, they will be speakers alongside invited Festival authors in various festival programs.

Submissions from authors interested in speaking at the Festival or proposing ideas for the 2024 program.
Can i present my work at the Festival?
Invitations to the 2024 Festival are issued at the discretion of the Festival’s Founder and the Programming Team. However, if you are a writer who wishes to speak at the Festival or put forward ideas for the program, feel free to send your submission through the online form below.
Can I recommend an author or speaker?
We welcome any speaker suggestions for our festival program through the online form. Note that the Festival is a tightly curated international showcase of literary work, and the character of the Festival depends on the vision of the Festival’s Founder and the Programming Team.
How does the Festival handle any submission?
While we welcome any program ideas submitted, the large volume of submissions we receive makes it impossible for us to respond to each one individually or return materials sent for consideration. If you do not receive a reply within one month from the date of submission to the email or phone number you indicated above, consider your proposal declined.
Is there any other way to present my work?
You are encouraged to apply for our annual Book Launch Program, which celebrates authors of all career stages at our Festival in October. Authors of all career stages planning to launch their works are welcome to submit their work. Submissions usually start mid-May each year and are announced on this page.
